Lawson is an adrenalin junkie and that’s one of the reasons he gave himself the challenge of learning to skydive solo. We caught up with him to hear his thoughts on the experience. Check it out in this short video.
Transcript:
Lawson: Hey. I’m Lawson up here at Jurien Bay doing the A-License skydiving course. I started out on Monday, did a bit of indoor skydiving up at iFly. I came down on a Tuesday morning, got straight up in the air pretty much. I did my tandem jump. The day after that we started solo jumps, that was mental. It was just unreal. Very exhilarating. You still get that just … I don’t know. That ball of energy in your stomach and your body when you get on the plane and it starts to take off. And when the door opens it’s that next level of exhilaration. It’s unreal. I love it.
Speaker 2: What are some of the biggest challenges so far for you?
Lawson: Yeah, aside from the after parties, it’s definitely sensory overload. I’ve never skydived before. I had no idea of what to expect, but that all goes out the window when you do. It’s overwhelming instantly, so staying calm and staying collected, that’s been one of the biggest hurdles. I’m a bit of an adrenalin junkie, so I’ve seen a whole bunch of videos on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube. I thought to myself, “This is the kind of challenge that I want to give myself, so I’ll have a crack at it.” I believe we have one more for this afternoon, a hop and pop, so jump out at 5,000 feet instead of 15,000, deploy the parachute pretty much immediately and then I believe we get back into it tomorrow for another six or eight jumps, something like that. That’s if I can restrain myself, it might be more than that otherwise.
Speaker 2: What are your plans once you finish the course? Lawson: I’ll book the next one, book the next course, B-Rels
