“Solo Skydiving Changed My Life”, by Shelby McLeary, August 2014.

Screen Shot 2014-08-12 at 4.11.31 pmLiving in Jurien bay my whole life (21 magical years) and seeing Skydive Jurien Bay evolve has been quite impressive. It wasn’t til I was involved with the events for experienced skydivers in May 2014 and having completed two successful tandems previously, that learning to solo skydive became a top priority in my life. Even though I wasn’t a skydiver at the time, the amount of energy and adrenalin that was pumping through that event in May was incredible!

23 days after the event, my quest to become a skydiver began. My biggest fear? Telling my parentals. Haha, not that I was concerned with what their response would be, I was still going ahead it with it all!

Lets be real, the whole experience was very surreal and overwhelming. I’m still trying to get my head around the fact that I can jump from a plane all by myself.

The instructors and staff at Skydive Jurien Bay went above and beyond to make sure that I thoroughly understood all the emergency procedures and I felt completely safe and confident that I was capable of flying and landing a parachute.

My favourite part of the course would have to of been the final stage which was a hop and pop. I had no instructor jump with me and I had to exit the plane from 5000ft, get stable, then deploy my parachute. Quite the thrill as you’re only in free fall for about 5-10 seconds and you’re at a much lower altitude compared to all the previous jumps.

If you’re thinking about doing the course, don’t. Just do it. It’ll change your life like nothing ever before. The feeling is indescribable and will leave you wondering why you didn’t do it sooner.’
